In history, many scientists who contributed great things are ridiculed, and later forgotten. Many people like this existed, some for things today that we take for granted, such as that the Earth orbits around the Sun, and that the Moon goes around the Earth. Heraclides Ponticus was one such man who studied why the Sun rose in the morning and set in the night. In the time of some of the smartest, and yet forgotten scientists, Heraclides Ponticus was in his prime, and his contributions helped effect much of what we do and know today.
Influences
As one who studied under the genius of Plato, and a peer to Galileo, Heraclides had several people around

him studying the same area.
Major Contributions
While it is still unknown whether Heraclides truly founded the Heliocentric Theory, he was one of the very first to suggest that planets move around the sun. While most agree that his writings suggest that the planets move around the sun, but the sun moves around the Earth, if this theory might have influenced other peers to disagree with a part of this hypothysis making them closer to what we know today as the truth
Affect and Effect
While the effect of this research is doubted to be able to be credited to him, the thing that got Heraclides' education was his wealthy merchant father Euthypron sending him to the Platonic Academy in Athens. Due to his research into Helio/Geocentric theories, much more has become known about Earth, Light, and our solar system.
The Things He Left Behind
His works in Heliocentricism made him partially responsible for such findings as the speed of light, among many other findings in Astronomy. While he was ridculed by being called "Pompus Ponticus" the story he would leeve behind as he tried to set up his own death to make it seem he were blessed, he shall be remembered as the founder of Heliocenticism or if not founding it, helping it to come into existance, and without that, our knowledge of space would be by far more limited today then what it is now.
